ACTRA is ready to bargain a new Independent Production Agreement (IPA) later this year. With so many major challenges facing our industry, negotiations with the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) and the Association Québécoise de la Production Médiatique (AQPM) are especially critical this time around.

The parties agreed to exchange bargaining proposals in advance, having done so on October 10, 2024. The extra time provides the parties with the opportunity to reflect on each other’s proposals in advance of formal negotiations, which will take place in Montreal and Toronto later in 2024.

As bargaining develops, please watch your email inbox for our United We Bargain updates. This page will also be home to the latest updates.

Key IPA bargaining dates:

October 10, 2024: Exchange of proposals between parties.

November 4 to 16, 2024: Bargaining commences in Montreal, QC.

December 9 to 14, 2024: Bargaining continues in Toronto, ON.

Have you ever wondered what the ACTRA IPA looks like? Why not take a look at the 2022-2024 IPA to see just how important and intricate this agreement is? You can also go back through our IPA archives to see how this agreement has evolved over the decades.

Artificial intelligence (AI) poses the biggest generational threat to members’ livelihoods and will play a major part in these IPA negotiations. ACTRA is all too aware of AI’s impact on our industry and has lobbied the federal government aggressively to enact legislation to protect performers. Learn more on the issue by reading the AI Submission that ACTRA made last year when the government prepared to introduce the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA).
